Fiberglass is made up of millions of little fiberglass strands, whereas metal ductwork has a smooth interior finish. What is the benefit of metal?
- Metal ductwork is more efficient for air flow, because there are no fibers to catch and hinder the air.
- Because metal is smoother, it does not trap dirt as easily.
- Metal can be cleaned thoroughly, whereas fiberglass cannot.
- Metal ductwork is easier to seal against air leakage. With metal, your only concern is at the joints, whereas with fiberglass, leaks can occur anywhere and are hard to trace.
