Merv-10 Filters
According to the American Lung Association, 99% of the particles you breathe in your home will pass through an average filter or vacuum bag. What this means is every time you vacuum clean your home, you are stirring dirt and dust particles back up into the air with nothing to trap them. Insight Homes include Merv 10 filters in all of our homes. These filters catch up to 97% of dust and dirt particles. The filters are installed in your interior walls, rather than under the house or in the attic. No matter how good a filter is, it cannot successfully filter air if it’s not changed and maintained on a regular basis. We believe you are more likely to remember to change your filters if you can see them daily.
The Merv 10 filters have a larger surface area (20 times larger than your typical pleated filter) so they don’t need to be replaced as often. You only need to change them every 6 months. In fact, for the first year of homeownership, Insight Homes replaces your filters for you.
When you live in a high humidity area, mold can be a huge concern. Another important advantage of these filters, are their ability to hinder mold growth. For mold to survive, three things are needed; air, moisture, and “food” (some type of cellulose material; IE wood, lint, or paper). When you compare the coil of a typical air conditioner after 10 years of use, versus a system that utilizes Merv 10 filters, the difference is startling (see picture below). With a typical filter, the amount of dirt (or “food” for mold growth) is excessive. The coil of a system that uses the Merv 10 filters looks brand new. As an added bonus, a system with a clean coil will work more efficiently than one with a dirty coil. In essence saving you energy costs, and maintaining a healthier home environment for you and your family.
